On Wednesday, 1st<\/sup> April 2026, speaking on the floor of the National Assembly Chambers in Banjul, during the \u201ccorrection and approval of the record of votes & proceedings of the sittings of Monday 30th<\/sup> March 2026,\u201d Kebba Lang Fofana<\/a>, Nominated National Assembly Member (MP), claimed that \u201cThe people you will find there are political party leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hon. Fofana made these remarks during the proceedings of the assembly and while responding to the issues raised by NAMs on the issue of the protest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stated: \u201cBecause you know what, Hon. Speaker, they know that this year, President Barrow has already won the election, and the only thing they campaign, the only thing they want to do is to create a sense of insecurity. I will tell you this, we have a tolerant president, we have a peaceful president, we have a president who is what, a democrat. But we will not allow anyone to make this country ungovernable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our findings on the matter revealed that the Brufut protest<\/a> was completely apolitical, and it was organized by Gambians Against Looted Assets (GALA), joined by the young people of Brufut, to demand the unconditional release of Ousainou Bojang and Amie Bojang, who were acquitted and discharged and re-arrested the following day. During the protest, no political party leader appeared at the scene while it was at its peak, and when the youths occupied the street with their placards, demanding the release of Ousainou and Bojang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mama Kandeh surfaced while the tension of the protest was put under control; however, the youths of Brufut rejected his coming there and started chanting, \u201cGo home, go home.\u201d<\/a> This moment was marked with interest for the release of the Bojang siblings and not political interference. The protest was purely based on the demand for a release and not politically driven by any political leader. Despite the coming of the Gambia Democratic Party (GDC) leader, Mama Kandeh<\/a>, it was met with resistance and unwelcome by the protesters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
