Claim<\/strong>: A TikTok user shared a post<\/a> claiming that the price of a bag of 42.5R cement has increased to D750 in The Gambia.

Verdict<\/strong>: Misleading. While cement prices increased between 2024 and 2025, they remain around D490-D500, not D750 as claimed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Full Text<\/strong>

Trustno-one, a TikTok user, recently posted<\/a> a picture of bags of Tiger Cement Gambia Industry with the caption that a bag of cement now costs D750 in The Gambia.

He wrote, \u201cBreaking news: cement 42.5R a bag costs 750 dalasis. It’s increased now. Are we still proud to be 100% Gambian?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of Aug. 20, 2026, the post (archived here<\/a>) had 62 likes and eight comments. Several users in the comments section did not believe the post.

For example, Sintet<\/a> simply wrote, \u201cThat’s not true.\u201d

However, Jobedollars1<\/a>, who seemingly believed him, wrote, \u201cTo vote out is the solution.\u201d

On the other hand, Rafaelo<\/a> asked, \u201cEvidence, please?\u201d

Due to the conflicting views users had about the claim, DUBAWA decided to verify and set the record straight with this fact check.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Verification<\/strong>

We conducted a keyword search to find publications on changes in cement prices in The Gambia.

In 2024, when the government increased the tax<\/a> on imported cement from D30 to D180, a bag of cement went from D380 to D575. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And despite the policy reversal<\/a> of the D180 tax on imported cement, a bag of cement continued to sell between D500 and D625 in most parts of the country.

DUBAWA spoke to cement retailers in places like Brusubi, Sukuta, and Brikama about the current price of a bag of cement. As of Aug. 20, 2026, Tiger Cement cost around D490, while Gacem, another cement brand, cost between D495 and D500.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conclusion<\/strong>

The claim that the price of a bag of cement has increased to D750 is misleading. While cement prices have increased over the years, they have not reached the D750 the claimant stated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
