Our findings show that the TikTok video does not actually depict the content of the circular shared by the Central Bank of the Gambia (CBG), and does not show any xenophobic attacks on foreign workers in the country as claimed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Full Text<\/strong> The video (archived here<\/a>), shared days after the Central Bank released a directive ordering all commercial banks to replace non-Gambian staff with qualified Gambians immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The post captioned, \u201cGambians GM have started xenophobic attacks on foreign workers in the Gambia.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n As of Sep. 25, 2026, the post generated 792 likes, 166\u00a0 comments, and 207 shares. The video further attracted mixed reactions among other TikTok users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jollof Man, who questioned the claim, wrote, \u201cReally, I\u2019m disappointed with my country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Saidou Jallow, another user who believed the claim, wrote, \u201cMy brother they are trying to manipulate their failures in the ten years of governance. Shame on them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n However, Yombeh described the claims as fake. She wrote: \u201cStop the fake news bro\u2026get your facts right.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cBrother please check before releasing information like this, you should take it down the information is wrong big man,\u201d AB2 wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Given the severity of the xenophobic statement and recent incidents of such attacks elsewhere, Info-Checked decided to set the record straight with this fact-check.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Verification<\/strong> The circular highlighted the high number of non-Gambians employed by banks; in addition to recognizing expatriate staff, the bank states that it violates the provisions of the Labour Act 2023<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The directive was carried by prominent media outlets but did not capture any xenophobic attacks on foreign workers in the Gambia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Info-Checked found the story published by Alkamba Times Sep. 20, 2026.
